Tips on Melt Proof Makeup

Hello again lady's & gent's i know in other places summer is just starting but here in South Florida  we have been enduring the heat for months . Being a person with oily skin my makeup never seems to last . I'm lucky if  i make  it to lunch with foundation still on my face . So i thought why not put together a list of things that have worked for me and will maybe work for you .

- Prep your self

If you have oily skin or combination i have found that during the day skipping your moisturizer and using a good primer is key . I have tried all sorts of day time moisturizer's thinking that i HAD to use it and just had not found THE ONE . Think about it tho , we spend our time trying to cut down on the oil and moister to help the foundation/concealer stick around all day . Well adding more isn't going to help . If you use a good night time moisturizer i have found that my skin feels great all day . Now primer will lock in that feeling of refreshing thrice quenched skin yet give your foundation/concealer something to hold on to thought out the day .

-Whats your coverage ?

Skin is prepped and ready to go , what are my coverage options ?  Powder foundation , Matte foundation , Concealer on the trouble spots???
Really any of these will do . It all depends on your skin what you want to cover . Key points to keep in mind you want a something that will be able to handle long hours , high tempter and is transfer resistant . If you work out doors you may even want to go water proof. If you are going with a liquid keep in mind its day time work hours unless your job requires you look picture perfect , light applications . Lets not for get there is always concealer for those trouble spots .

-Multipurpose makeup

An easy way to avoid that dreaded overdone look is to you use a multipurpose product . Make that blush tint double as a lip stain , bronzer warm up those brow bones . This way its less you carry with you for touch ups and less to worry about .

-Blot don't wipe

Every one should carry blotting sheets with them . If you ran out or cant find them just keep the motion in mind . We want to dry up the shine and leave the make up , so don't wipe it away . Make sure you do this instead or before your powder your T-zone to avoid caked on make up .

Hope you find this helpful . Thanks again for reading and i love the feedback so be sure to leave comments on what works for you , i am always looking for new tips and tricks to learn.

Thanks

Review : Lush Dirty

( Note from the Editor: This is our very first guest blogger , my wonderful husband Peter . I wanted to get the best point of view on this and it being a men's line he got the job . Enjoy .)

I was recently recruited by my wife to be the guinea pig for LUSHs’ new “Dirty” line for men. We picked up a sampler pack that came with everything for $20 so I could see what I like. We were told that each item in the package contains one part of the overall “scent” that the others don’t have so that you don’t smell like a teenager who’s doused himself in AXE body spray before a hot date. (I’ve done it, so I know that musk.) I was hesitant about most of it, other than the body wash but was pleasantly surprised that not only did I like most of it, but that I’ll probably continue to use it. The body wash itself is like any other gel soap you can get really. It’s nothing outstanding and does what it’s supposed to do but it also doubles as a shampoo, and for my dry scalp it does wonders. Any generic or “brand name” soap/shampoo always dries out my skin and makes me itch like a dog with fleas.

The shaving cream threw me off a bit as when I applied it on in the shower, I could barely tell that it was there. It worked as good as any other “sensitive skin” gel or foam I’ve ever used but it left a residue on my blade that was a pain to scrub off. I actually had to use my nails to scrape it off to keep my hair from sticking to it. It did however, leave me cutless and without any need for a post shave moisturizer. Whether or not that’s worth the annoyance of having to hose down my blade afterwards remains to be seen. I keep my hair short so I really had no need for the styling gel, but decided to try it out on my mustache (which is actually longer than the hair on my head.) It holds well without being overly “sticky” like most product usually is. The cologne that comes with it was nice and not overly strong. I hate being able to “smell myself” whether it’s a good thing or bad thing. My only real big negative was the tooth tabs. You bite into these little tabs and when you add water they foam up. Aside from tasting like straight baking soda, they didn’t dissolve very fast so I was standing there looking like a tool for a few minutes just to get enough foam to brush with. Other than that, half the pieces didn’t dissolve and I wound up spitting them out anyway. I’ll stick to regular tooth paste, thanks Lush.
Overall, if you’re a guy or want your guy to smell nice and be clean then the Dirty products (other than the tooth tabs) are worth it. Not overpowering in the smell area, they keep you clean, and other than having to clean your razor well after usage there was no real issues with any of it. So check it out next time you swing by your local LUSH or order online.

When to say good bye to your makeup??

How long can i hold on to my makeup befor it becomes no good?

This is what my sister and mom asked me a while back and i had no true answer for them . It got me thinking how are we suppost to know when you have been holding on to that lipstick for to long or that press powder . I did some research and it turns out they dont last forever .

If you know how to take care of your makeup then it should serve you well. But use common sense: If your gloss is gloopy, your nail polish is separating, or your lipstick has a funny smell, it's time to bid it adieu. Everything i have read gives about the same life span , anywhere from three to eightteen months . Heres the breakdown:

Concealer and water-based foundations have a shelf life of 12 months, while an oil-based foundation has a shelf life of 18 months.  Powders can last up to 2 years (this includes your powder blush/bronzer), but let’s be real, we go through the powder way before it would ever expire.  Eyeshadows last up to 3 years.  Eye and lip liners, with regular sharpening, can hang on for 3 years.  Facial creams should be thrown out after 12 months.  Experts disagree on when lipstick expires.  Some say 1-2 years, while others say it’s good till about year 4, but everyone agrees that if it smells funny, throw it out.  Mascara should be replaced every 3 months.  Brushes should be washed at least once a month in a mild detergent (baby shampoo works great).  Makeup sponges should be washed weekly and thrown out monthly.
Below is a cheat sheet but if you dont want to play guessing games again, i suggest writing the date of purchase with a sharpie marker on all of my cosmetics!

MascaraEvery three months
Foundation One year
Concealer 12 - 18 months
Powder 18 months
Blush/Bronzer 18 months
Cream blush 12 - 18 months
Eye shadow 18 - 36 months
Eyeliner 18 months
Liquid eyeliner 6 months
Lipstick / lip gloss 18 months
Lip liner 12 - 24 months
Nail polish 12 - 24 months
Makeup spongesWash after each use, then throw away after a month.

Hope you find this helpfull . Have a great weekend . <3

My Favorites for the month of May

I wanted to start off this favorites post with something that i have heard a lot about and did not get a chance to try till now . That would be :

Jack Black Black Tea lip balm

This product is intended for men hence the simple blue and black packaging . I am a lip product junkie. I have multiple storage containers full of different lip products and treatments, so please believe me when i tell you i am always on the search for the perfect lip balm and i am fairly certain this is it.

This product is extremely hydrating protects agents UVA/UVB damage and guard against windburn and extreme temperatures. It seems to create a shield over your lips locking in all the moister . Keeping in mind this product is geared towards men it appears matte on your lips and this is why to me its the holy grail of lip balms . I love matte lip sticks but unfortunately they dry out lips . Place a lip gloss on top no longer is the lipstick matte . I place little bit of this balm on my lips and then use my fave. matte lipstick and am able to keep my lips from drying out but still get to keep my wonderful matte lip look.

Staying on the lip products this month my go to lipstick had been

M.A.C Patisserie Lustre Lipstick

This has been my go to lipstick this month . It is the perfect nude color for me, with its slight pinkie hue it goes great with any look and dose not wash me out. It has no shimmer , also because its a Lustre's the coverage is sheer and glossy yet very build able.

Next is a newly discovered fragrance thanks to a great girl and a good friend Deb . She came to visit and was raving about this perfume , i had never herd of it before so we took a trip to Sephora and let me tell you i fell in love .

Viktor&Rolf  Flowerbomb
First time i smelled it i was taken back at how floral it was yet there was something about the base note i was drawn to i couldn't stop smelling my wrist . This is the kind of perfume that you want to wear even when no one else is around .You seem to have a secret love affair with  yourself . The bottle is another beautiful part of this perfume . keeping true to the name it is shaped like a grenade.  FlowerBomb is a blend of creamy florals resting on a warm base of patchouli and vanilla . This is hands down in my top 5 really probably  top three favorite perfumes.

Now for skin care i have rediscovered this item . It has helped to control my acne and balance out my skin .

Shea Moisture Organic Bar African Black Soap

This Soap is made from palm ash, tamarind extract, tar and plantain peel has been used in Africa for centuries to treat eczema, acne, oily skin, psoriasis, and other skin ailments. Combined with the healing and hydrating properties of Shea Butter, used daily it will balance and resolve problem skin. This little lovely can be picked up at your local target or online.

That's it for this month i hope everyone is having a great spring so far and i will see you soon.
