When to say good bye to your makeup??

How long can i hold on to my makeup befor it becomes no good?

This is what my sister and mom asked me a while back and i had no true answer for them . It got me thinking how are we suppost to know when you have been holding on to that lipstick for to long or that press powder . I did some research and it turns out they dont last forever .

If you know how to take care of your makeup then it should serve you well. But use common sense: If your gloss is gloopy, your nail polish is separating, or your lipstick has a funny smell, it's time to bid it adieu. Everything i have read gives about the same life span , anywhere from three to eightteen months . Heres the breakdown:

Concealer and water-based foundations have a shelf life of 12 months, while an oil-based foundation has a shelf life of 18 months.  Powders can last up to 2 years (this includes your powder blush/bronzer), but let’s be real, we go through the powder way before it would ever expire.  Eyeshadows last up to 3 years.  Eye and lip liners, with regular sharpening, can hang on for 3 years.  Facial creams should be thrown out after 12 months.  Experts disagree on when lipstick expires.  Some say 1-2 years, while others say it’s good till about year 4, but everyone agrees that if it smells funny, throw it out.  Mascara should be replaced every 3 months.  Brushes should be washed at least once a month in a mild detergent (baby shampoo works great).  Makeup sponges should be washed weekly and thrown out monthly.
Below is a cheat sheet but if you dont want to play guessing games again, i suggest writing the date of purchase with a sharpie marker on all of my cosmetics!
